Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in her bid to woo the Muslims said that her party would go all alone in the elections and is now with no on, as she distanced herself from the BJP-led NDA alliance.
Kolkata, Sept 6 : Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in her bid to woo the Muslims said that her party would go 'all alone' in the elections and is "now with no on", as she distanced herself from the BJP-led NDA alliance.
"We are now with no one and are trying to stand on our own," Mamata said to a group of Muslim students here today.
Stating that in spite being part of the NDA at the Centre, her party voted against draconian POTA and demanded Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's resignation after the Gujarat riots.
"The Left is falsely drubbing me as 'communal'," she said, adding that her party was the only party in the West Bengal, which protested on the streets against the demolition of Babri Masjid.
Stating that her fight against the CPI (M)'s 'atrocities and misrule' would continue, Mamata said that she would continue with agitation programmes against the 'illegal' land acquisition in Nandigram and Singur.
Muslims constitute more than a quarter of the West Bengal's population and their support plays a pivotal role in the elections.
