A trial court in Bhopal on Thursday dismissed a prosecution appeal against the acquittal of Bollywood starlet and companion of underworld don Abu Salem, Monica Bedi by a lower court in a fake passport case.
Bhopal, Sept 6 : A trial court in Bhopal on Thursday dismissed a prosecution appeal against the acquittal of Bollywood starlet and companion of underworld don Abu Salem, Monica Bedi by a lower court in a fake passport case.
On July 16, the Chief Judicial Magistrate court acquitted Bedi in a forged passport case for want of adequate evidence against her.
The prosecution (the Bhopal Police) had appealed in the District court for a review of her acquittal in the case, saying certain statements from witnesses had not been taken into account.
A case was registered against Bedi in Bhopal for securing a passport on the forged documents in the name of Fauzia.
Yet another case of fake passport is pending against Bedi in the Hyderabad court.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against her for possessing a passport from Hyderabad on forged documents in the name of Sana Malik.
The apex court had granted bail to Bedi in this case. She was released on bail from a Hyderabad jail pending an appeal after the Andhra Pradesh High Court sentenced her to three years imprisonment.
Earlier, the High Court had reduced the five-year jail term awarded to her by the trial court.
Bedi and Abu Salem were extradited from Portugal in November 2005.
