The Delhi High Court today directed Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss to put his signatures on the degrees and certificates awarded by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) within 24 hours.
New Delhi, Sep 3 : The Delhi High Court today directed Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss to put his signatures on the degrees and certificates awarded by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) within 24 hours.
The court said that the 49 degrees and certificates sent to Ramadoss, who is also the President of the AIIMS management body, carrying the signature of institute's Registrar shall be considered valid.
Ramadoss had refused to sign the degree certificates, terming them as illegal since they were signed by AIIMS Registrar Dr Sandeep Agarwal.
"Dr Agarwal's appointment as Registrar does not have the approval of the (AIIMS) Governing Body. Therefore, these documents are illegal, and I cannot put my signature on illegal documents," said Ramadoss.
Medicos at the AIIMS had gone on a three-day strike, which they ended on August 30 after resolution of their demands.
The strike had crippled medical services at the hospital.
Doctors went on strike on August 28 saying that those who have qualified for various medical courses, are facing difficulty in seeking jobs or pursuing higher studies in the absence of their degrees.
