Srinagar, Sep 28 : Farmers in Jammu and Kashmir are reaping a bumper paddy crop following timely rain and no outbreak of diseases this year.
The State Agriculture Department has predicted that the production used amount to 4,75,000 metric tonnes of paddy.
"We are expecting that the paddy crop will cross the target we have set this year." said Gulam Haider Bhatt, Director, Agriculture Department.
Farmers, who have suffered heavy losses last year due to floods and various diseases, say they have been eagerly waiting for the harvesting season to begin this year.
"We plant it during May-June and then we wait for the day when we will reap it and take it home," said Shaukat, a farmer.
"This year the crop is very good in comparison to last year, that's why we are happy", said G.M. Shah another farmer.
The harvesting season of paddy in Kashmir starts from the end of September.
