Partys decision on nuke deal will be unanimous: CPI (M)

In a bid to brush aside differences in opinions over the need for nuclear energy and the contentious Indo-US nuclear deal amongst some of the senior leaders of the CPI (M), the party today said that any decision on the issue would be a unanimous one.

New Delhi, Sept 28 : In a bid to brush aside differences in opinions over the need for nuclear energy and the contentious Indo-US nuclear deal amongst some of the senior leaders of the CPI (M), the party today said that any decision on the issue would be a unanimous one.

"I am sure we will take a unanimous decision", M K Pandhe said after the end of the party's crucial politburo meeting, which was attended by CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat, former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu and the incumbent West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee among others.

Recently, Buddhadeb had pitched for the need of the clean nuclear energy for the country and had received similar kind of support from his former colleague Basu.

Buddhadeb's view on the issue has been quite different from those expressed by Karat and others, as the latter has vehemently opposed the UPA government's quest for a nuclear deal with the US.
