New Delhi, Sept 28 : West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today sought legal action against the Delhi-based FM radio station for allegedly airing derogatory remarks against the newly crowned Indian Idol Prashant Tamang.
"I have sought for necessary legal action against the FM station," Buddhadeb said here.
The West Bengal Government has already sought Union Home Ministry's advice on the matter and has deployed army in Silliguri after fans of Tamang clashed with locals in Siliguri.Last week Tamang, a native of Darjeeling and an ethnic Nepalese youth, won the coveted Indian Idol singing competition after beating Amit Paul from Meghalaya.
Tamang is working with the Kolkata Police.
Meanwhile, Section 144 has been clamped in Siliguri and security forces in some parts of the city reportedly carried out flag march.
Earlier in the day, close to 2,000 fans of Tamang were protesting against the alleged derogatory remark made by the radio jockey, when things turned violent.
Nepalese-dominated fans of Tamang clashed with locals and police here, leading to widespread violence in the commercial city of West Bengal.
Two people were seriously injured and dozens other sustained minor injuries.
Police had to open fire in air to control the situation there. Teargas shells were also fired.
