HCC (Hindustan Construction Company Ltd), India's leading construction and infrastructure development company, has won the coveted Golden Peacock Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance for the year 2007.
The Golden Peacock Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance has been instituted by the Institute of Directors (IOD) and the World Council for Corporate Governance, UK. It is a self-assessment tool aimed to accelerate organization's improvement process. The preparation for the award in itself inspires and aligns the entire work force, builds morale and helps companies achieve superior performance.
The award winners were selected through an elaborate multilevel and transparent assessment process. The global award jury is chaired by Dr Ola Ullsten, former Prime Minister of Sweden. Members include Justice P N Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of India, Mr Ruud Lubbers, former Prime Minister of Netherlands and Mr Olivier Giscard d'Estaing, founder Chairman of INSEAD. The first level assessment was carried out by a panel of international assessors under the guidance of Pradeep Chaturvedi, the chief examiner.
HCC was selected as a winner in the National Category by an eminent jury chaired by Justice P N Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of India and member of the UN Human Rights Committee. This prestigious award was received by Mr V P Kulkarni, Company Secretary, HCC, at an award function held in London at the 8th International Conference on Corporate Governance organized by the World Council for Corporate Governance. The award was conferred by Dr Ola Ullsten, former Prime Minister of Sweden. Nearly 35 nations participated in the conference that had a very unique theme for businesses - Creating a better world through Corporate Governance.
Winning the prestigious Golden Peacock award underlines the high value that HCC places on corporate governance, which leads to a competitive advantage in driving business in today's rapidly changing business world.
