The Delhi Government was today directed by the Delhi High Court to implement the Ganguly Committee recommendations with regard to the age criteria for nursery admission from the 2008-2009 academic year.
New Delhi, Sept.26 : The Delhi Government was today directed by the Delhi High Court to implement the Ganguly Committee recommendations with regard to the age criteria for nursery admission from the 2008-2009 academic year.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice M K Sharma passed the direction following the government counsel's submission that the cabinet has approved Ganguly Committee's recommendation which says the minimum age of a child for admission to the nursery class should be four years.
The government also informed the court that it would issue guidelines for the schools with regard to the implementation of the committee's recommendations.
The court rejected a submission made by the counsel for private schools that the number of play schools will be "mushrooming" and it would be difficult for the schools to accommodate the large number of children for their admission.
"If the schools have any difficulty at the time of admission, they can approach the Directorate of Education, NCT," the bench said.
Following the Court's previous direction on April 25, the committee headed by CBSE Chairman Ashok Ganguly had submitted its recommendations to the Delhi Government on nursery admission.
With regard to the Ganguly Commitee's 100 point recommendations for nursery admission, the bench was informed by the government that it rejects the suggestions.
To this, the bench asked the government to produce before it about the guidelines in case it rejected the Committee's report.
The court was hearing two separate PIL's -- one on age criteria on nursery admissions and the other on general criteria for nursery admissions.
