First Cricket Star of India Returns Back from Leicester, Living his Dream

Chandigarh, Haryana, India

Sukhvir Singh the winner of the first ever reality cricket talent hunt 'Cricket Star' proved to everyone that he actually deserved his reward at Leicestershire County Cricket Club. The twenty-year-old Punjabi lad, the first Cricket Star of India, returned to his village Shahpur, on Wednesday, 19th September 2007, after completing his contract training and playing with Leicestershire County Cricket Club. Sukhvir Singh had left for UK in May to live his dream reward having won the coveted crown of "Cricket Star" being the winner of the first ever Cricket realty show Cricket Star that was simulcast on Doordarshan and Zee Network from January to March 2007.

Sukhvir was one among the 23 players selected from 25,000 hopefuls who was voted the winner of the Cricket Star Series I. Son of the bus driver, this 22 year lad has already made a mark for himself. Sukhvir braved many odds on his way to the top of the show, and proved to everyone that nothing is impossible for a willing mind.

Sukhvir enjoyed his English summer at Leicestershire County Cricket Club where amongst other experiences he got the opportunity to be at the nets with the Indian cricket team when they were at Leicester recently in England. Stalwarts from the Indian team like Yuvraj Singh, Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir, Ramesh Powar and Wasim Jaffer provided some tips to Sukhvir who has so far played seven matches for Leicestershire's Ivanhoe Club, picking up 17 wickets. Sukhvir has worked with Dennis Lillee at the MRF Pace Academy and has interacted with Cricket luminaries like Kapil Dev, Waqar Younis, Geoffery Boycott, Sanjay Manjeraker, Monty Panesar to name a few.

Sukhvir got an opportunity to get trained under Tim Boon, the Leicestershire County coach. Sukhvir said, "My daily practice included the fitness testing and screening as well as practicing with the squad."

It took one full month for Sukhvir to come to terms with the cold climatic conditions of England. "I am blessed & lucky to spend my summer here and receive the right kind of guidance from the Cricket Gurus. I have come a long way from my village and still have a long way to go to fulfill my ultimate dream of playing for India", further adds Sukhvir.

Back home, Sukhvir feels that he has become an overnight Star as the people of his village are very proud of this achievement. He thanks this unique reality show, 'Cricket Star' that has given him a chance to realize his dream and turn it into reality.
