Gangtok, Sept 23 : Sikkim has revived beauty contests in the State by organising Thunder Miss Sikkim 2007 recently, which saw participation of thirteen contestants to show a mix of tradition and modernity.
Sumit Dahal, winner of the "Thunder Miss Sikkim 2007" said the crown was "equivalent to Miss Universe crown" for her.
"I take this as my first step towards my success," Dahal said.
She will represent her State at the Mega Miss North East contest to be held later this year.
For the models of the State, such contests serve as a platform to launch themselves at the national level.
Rinchen Bhutia, the second Runner-up, said: "I am very happy to have been crowned Miss Runner-up. Such contests are stepping stone for us and also help in building our confidence."
Rakesh Somani, one of the contest organisers, said: "For all the beauties with brain, this is the right time to reach the national level. I thought of organising the contest to give right direction to them."
Out of 13 participants, five were short-listed for the finals.
