Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has ruled out the possibility of any strain in the relationship between his Dravid Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Congress party over the Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project.
New Delhi, Sept 23 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has ruled out the possibility of any strain in the relationship between his Dravid Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Congress party over the Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project.
"Don't worry, nothing will happen to our (DMK and Congress) relationship," Karunanidhi said in an interview to CNN-IBN while responding to a query that his party has been demanding continuation of the project, but the state Congress has been quite on it.
However, he said that there is no need for protests, adding, "But the project should be completed on time. To bring that into focus there could be more demonstrations."
Earlier today, DMK activists led by State Information Minister Paruthi Ellamvazhuthi ransacked Chennai office of the Bharatiya Janata Party, while protesting against the remarks made by Vishva Hindu Parishad leader Ramvilas Vedanti to behead Karunanidhi over his remarks on Lord Rama.
Last Sunday, Karunanidhi had questioned the existence of Ram while addressing a rally in Erode, saying that Ram is an imaginary character, and asked: "Was Ram a civil engineer?" which created hullabaloo.
On September 20, refusing to withdraw his remarks on Lord Rama, Karunanidhi said that as per Ramayana's author Valmiki, Ram was a "drunkard."
"I have not said anything more than Valmiki, who authored Ramayana. Valmiki had even stated that Rama was a drunkard. Have I said so?" Karunanidhi said.
