New Delhi, Sept 23 : A postage stamp to commemorate the 53rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference being held in New Delhi was released by Vice President Hamid Ansari today.
Speaking on the occasion, Communications and Information Technology Minister A. Raja said that the Department of Posts is privileged to release the stamp. This stamp is a tribute to the Commonwealth's spirit of parliamentary democracy.
He added that in the last decade, more than 50 new Parliaments and Legislatures joined or rejoined the CPA, and its growth is a testimony of the resurgence of Parliamentary democracy.
A multi-racial, multi-lingual, multi-cultural and multi-religious association of sovereign nations spread across all the continents, the Commonwealth is a well knit international organisation. It fosters belief in international cooperation being the way to remove causes of war, combating injustice and securing development among the peoples of the world.
This Conference has eminent Parliamentarians from across the Commonwealth who will deliberate and evolve consensus on issues confronting the world today like managing effects of globalisation on small countries.
