Amritsar, Sept. 22 : To make people laugh is not just a hobby these days! Comedy is now a thriving career.

All credit for this goes to the small screen, which has opened up new avenues for professional as well aspiring comedians.

The famed Punjabi humour has made its presence felt on the small screen. Rajiv Thakur, whose spoofs on celebrities have won him a following, is among four finalists from Amritsar in the comedy show - "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge".

"We comedians too have earned a status through television shows. We are doing the same as what comedians were doing in the past. But they were old fashioned in their performance. Comedy is the same, but it gets recognition. From villages, it has reached the cities and now it is on television. Comedy has reached international level," claimed Rajiv.

Many want to be like Rajiv and are taking time off to learn the nuances of comedy from Ghulle Shah alias Surinder Faristha, a famous Punjabi comedian.

"Comedy is receiving an overwhelming appreciation because in this tension-filled life, a person wants to laugh. These days every comedian is busy putting up shows. They are doing a wonderful job," said Shah.

From the stage to television and to films, the scope is limitless for newcomers. All that is required is proper guidance. Shah is an inspiration to many budding artists.

"I desire to be a great artist like Ghulle Shah. I want to perform across the world," said a budding artist.

"A few want to be doctors and some as actors. Comedy suits me and I want it to flourish among the masses. Laughter has become routine to me," another budding artist added.

Punjabi comedians are ready to add more smiles to a tension and stress-filled life.
