Subodh Nath Jha's Book on Uttar Pradesh to Hit the Market Soon

Uttar Pradesh - The land and the people, authored by Subodh Nath Jha, Director General & Additional Secretary (Commerce) with Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, will hit the shelves across India soon. The book is published by National Book Trust, India.

The book aims to provide useful and authentic information with regard to the state of Uttar Pradesh, both about its past and present on a wide range of subjects viz., its physiographic, natural resources, area, population, history, culture, religion, polity, administration, infrastructure and economy.

The State of Uttar Pradesh is characterized with certain distinctive features which makes it completely different from other states of the country. Geographically, it is well placed, physically quite sound, historically greatly glorified, culturally profoundly rich, socially very significant and politically utmost virile, economically, however, despite being endowed with such niceties and potentialities, more than half-a-century's planned development, it still remains ominously a backward state.

The peculiarities and wonderfulness of the state can only be understood and translated into words by someone who has been deeply involved with the state and knows it in and out. The former Chairman, Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, Lucknow, Sri Subodh Nath Jha, IAS (1972), has aptly put together various aspects of the state in his book "Uttar Pradesh - The land and the people".

In a fast moving life these days, more and more people are getting interested in knowing about the characteristics, situation, phenomenon, etc., relating to particular region or state in an easy, effective and compact manner. National Book Trust of India recognized the need of a book, which could contain information on almost all significant subjects/features of Uttar Pradesh as has already been attempted in case of other states. The task was offered to Sri Subodh Nath Jha by the NBT, which he gladly accepted because of his long association with Uttar Pradesh in various administrative capacities.

This book will provide necessary breadth and depth in understanding the past, the present multifarious phenomenon of Uttar Pradesh and prove equally useful to public in general and researchers, policy makers and planners in particular.

About the Author

Sri S.N.Jha, IAS (1972), former Chairman, Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, Lucknow, has acquired a long experience of more than three decades occupying many important positions in the state administration with distinguished records. He is presently the Director General & Additional Secretary (Commerce) with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
