Security has been tightened along the 1700-kilometre long Indo-Nepal border in the wake of recent political developments in Nepal.
Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Sept. 20 : Security has been tightened along the 1700-kilometre long Indo-Nepal border in the wake of recent political developments in Nepal.
The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in charge of border security have been put on alert after the Nepal Maoists pulled out from the coalition government.
Security forces manning the border have also been equipped with modern technological devices like Global Positioning System (GPS) that would help them in countering the insurgents who use the long porous border to enter into India.
"We have introduced GPS which identifies the longitudes and latitudes, thus making map reading easy for us. We have also got night visibility equipments which will help us in carrying out the night operations in an effective manner," said L K Puri, Area Organiser in Siddharth Nagar.
SSB was deployed along the Indo-Nepal border in 2002, and since then they have been given the status of a border security force.
"There are many groups that enjoy spreading terror. And they are ever ready to upgrade their operations, methods and gadgets. Why should we lag behind them? We have decided that to counter their activities," said S. Bandopadhya, Director General of SSB of Gorakhpur range.
The latest devices issued to the SSB include the GPS, night vision gadgets, fake currency detectors, mind detectors, digital cameras and close circuit monitoring for the border infiltration.
