Hyderabad, Sep 20 : The aroma of 'Haleem', a delicious non-vegetarian dish, pervades Hyderabad with a difference during the holy month of Ramadan.
A restaurant in the city has cooked up a new variation of the Haleem with fish as a substitute.
Haleem, a traditional Mughal dish is usually made of wheat and meat and seasoned with spices.
The restaurant owner, Mohammad Arif, says "The fish recipe has appealed a lot to customers. We have kept the price reasonable at 60 rupees."
"The taste is great. Not many people know about the delicacy. Once they know there will be no place to sit and we will have to stand and eat. I wonder how the idea must have struck the owner," said Amjad Hussain, a customer.
The city of Hyderabad is known for its Muslim culture since it has been under Muslim rule for a long time.
Millions of Muslims across India began marking the fasting month on September 14, after the sighting of new moon.
All over India during Ramadan, Muslims do not take food or water from dawn to dusk. They also devote their time to worship and studying of the Quran. They eat a pre-dawn meal, called Sehri and at the end of the day, called Iftar.
