Fatwa issued against Salman for celebrating Ganesh Puja(Lead: Fatwa)

A Muslim clergy of Bareilly today issued a fatwa against Bollywood actor Salman Khan for participating in a Ganesh Puja celebration in Mumbai.

Lucknow, Sept 20 : A Muslim clergy of Bareilly today issued a fatwa against Bollywood actor Salman Khan for participating in a Ganesh Puja celebration in Mumbai.

Mufti Fakir Qadri Mohammad Farukh Gafrutula issued the fatwa on behalf the Ifta-Manzar-e-Islam on the issue of idol-worshipping by any Muslim.

According to the fatwa, if Salman wants to become a Muslim again, he will have to read the 'Kalma' again.

The clergy, however, maintained that the fatwa was not specifically for Salman, but it was for every Muslim who has worshipped idol.

On Sunday, Salman and his family members worshipped the idol of Lord Ganesh.

Salman Khan attended the prayer with hundreds of other devotees at the famous Raja Ganpati Mandal on Wednesday.

"We believe in this. The energy here is spectacular. When we were kids, we used to come here and I have come here after a long time. Whatever I wanted, I have got," Khan had said.

The Ganesha festival is hugely popular in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
