The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today appealed to the Kerala Government to cancel its decision to felicitate painter M F Hussain with the Raja Ravi Varma award.
Kochi, Sep 16 : The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today appealed to the Kerala Government to cancel its decision to felicitate painter M F Hussain with the 'Raja Ravi Varma' award.
The Government was "insulting" the Hindu community by selecting Husain, who had portrayed the Hindu gods and goddesses in a bad light, for this award, VHP Secretary General Praveen Togadia told reporters.
Varma had done his best to respect the Hindu gods and goddesses through his paintings, he added.
Togadia alleged the government of taking control of the administration of temples.
This is "clear interference" in Hindu religious matters and against constitutional norms, he added.
On September 12, the Kerala High Court restrained the decision by the ruling LDF Government to honour Hussain.
