Foreign Secretary Menon to visit China

Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon will begin his two-day visit to Beijing from Monday to take forward the India-China bilateral relations.

New Delhi, Sept 16 : Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon will begin his two-day visit to Beijing from Monday to take forward the India-China bilateral relations.

During the visit, Menon will hold discussions on regional and international issues of mutual interest with the Chinese authorities, said an External Affairs Ministry statement.

Besides, the Indo-US civil nuclear deal and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh`s planned trip to China later this year, are also expected to figure in the talks.

Recently, China has expressed its willingness to discuss the Indo-US civil nuclear deal when it comes up at the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

The next round of talks on boundary between National Security Advisor M K Narayanan and Chinese Vice- Minister Dai Bingguo are likely to be held later this month.

United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson and Congress party president Sonia Gandhi is expected to visit China next month.

Menon is presently on a visit to Nepal to assess the political situation there.

Menon held discussions with Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala reportedly on the issues, including elections preparations of Constituent Assembly, boarder security, and Nepali Congress unification.
