The Special Services Bureau (SSB) has revived its programme under which youths of villages along Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan border are given weapon training.
Kolkata, Sep 15 : The Special Services Bureau (SSB) has revived its programme under which youths of villages along Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan border are given weapon training.
The SSB, which is responsible for guarding country's border with Nepal and Bhutan, has revived this programme after the gap of seven years.
The SSB instructors are providing weapons training and basic combat skills to 15 young men at Ranidanga and this training will last for 10 days, SSB sector commander HC Pandey said.
Divulging the plan of the paramilitary force, Pandey said that they would train at least 400 youths at Ranidanga.
"We want the border populations to be part of our effort to defend the national frontiers effectively," the BBC quoted Pandey, as saying.
The officials, however, said that these trained villagers would not be provided with weapons.
We want to create a pool of trained people who if required would be motivated to co-operate with security forces and fight alongside them, they added.
