Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rebels have called upon the people to vote the Congress Party back to power.
Rajkot (Gujarat), Sept. 15 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rebels have called upon the people to vote the Congress Party back to power.
Addressing a 150,000-strong public rally in Rajkot, the rebels said that the Narendra Modi Government needed to be ousted for its corrupt and autocratic way of administration.
"We have made a clear call to the people to vote for the Congress. Thousands have taken oath to that effect. We have gone to every village to mobilize people. We will vote the BJP out of power and bring in the Congress Party," said Dhirubhai Gajera, former BJP state lawmaker.
The leaders, however, said they hadn't as yet decided whether to join the Congress or not.
"We haven't decided upon our final strategy as yet. For now, we are mobilizing people against Modi's autocracy," said Vallabh BhaI Kathariya, another suspended lawmaker.
The BJP's central leadership is reportedly mediating between the Modi and Keshubhai factions to sew up fissures before the November elections in the State.
The Supreme Court had judged that the Modi Government had looked the other way while innocent people were burning during the Hindu-Muslim riots in the state in 2002, and was probably deliberating how to protect the killers.
It compared Modi to Roman Emperor Nero, who played his lyre while Rome burnt.
