The Union Cabinet today approved a proposal to modify the eligibility criteria under National Old Age Pension Scheme NOAPS.
New Delhi, Sep 13 : The Union Cabinet today approved a proposal to modify the eligibility criteria under National Old Age Pension Scheme NOAPS.
Earlier those "who are 65 years or higher and a destitute" were getting NOAPS, but from now onwards, those "who are 65 years or higher and belong to a household below the poverty line, according to the criteria prescribed by the Government for getting the benefits of the scheme.
The scheme will be implemented in the light of the announcement made by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his Independence Day speech, said a government release.
" We will provide an old age pension to all citizens above the age of 65 years and living below the poverty line," Singh had said.
