Nawaz takes refuge in Sharif Palace

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been lodged in a mansion popularly known here as Sharif Palace.

Jeddah, Sep 11 : Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been lodged in a mansion popularly known here as Sharif Palace.

From December 2000 till he left for London, Sharif lived at the Saroor Palace, which is owned by Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal.

"It is no secret that the Saudi leadership was not comfortable with his political activities, but did little to impose any restrictions, except for the few months after Mian Shahbaz Sharif was sent back to Jeddah from Lahore in 2004," The Dawn reported.

According to a senior analyst, this time Sharif might find it quite difficult to engage in politics from here.

"Recent developments, particularly those of the past week, would definitely change the attitude of the royal family," he added.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia said it "welcomed" Sharif's return to his former exile home.

"Nawaz Sharif is a guest of Saudi Arabia, which welcomed his coming to live in the kingdom once again," the official SPA news agency said.

After his arrival at Jeddah, Sharif was greeted by Saudi intelligence chief Prince Miqren bin Abdul Aziz, SPA added.
