The Mayawati-led Government in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday suspended 12 top police officials for their involvement in States police recruitment scandal during the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav regime.

Lucknow, Sept 11 : The Mayawati-led Government in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday suspended 12 top police officials for their involvement in State's police recruitment scandal during the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav regime.

Among the senior IPS officers suspended are eight Director General of Police (DIG) and two Inspector General (IG).

Besides, the State Government has cancelled recruitment of 6,504 police constables.

The government has also decided to lodge FIRs against the IPS officers and 18 ASP rank officials and 40 circle officers.

The Government has taken action based on the inquiry report submitted by a committee headed by Additional Director General Shailja Kant Misra about the irregularities in the recruitment of around 22,000 by 14 out of 55 recruitment boards.

The recruitments were reportedly made during 2005-06

Addressing a press conference, Principal Secretary (Home) J N Chamber and State's Director General of Police Vikram Singh said the inquiry into recruitment by the remaining 41 boards would be completed by September 30.
