Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni will leave for Japan today to participate in the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) World Travel Fair.
New Delhi, Sept. 11 : Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni will leave for Japan today to participate in the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) World Travel Fair.
Soni will lead the delegation for the fair, which is scheduled to be held in Tokyo.
During her stay, she will also deliver the keynote address at the 'Incredible India' seminar and will address the Japanese travel trade and media during the Road Show.
The Minister is scheduled to return to Delhi on September 14.
Japan is one of the leading tourist generating markets for India, with approximately 1.2 lakh tourists from Japan visiting India during 2006, an increase of over 15.5 per cent as compared to the previous year.
During the visit of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Japan in December 2006, a joint statement designating the year 2007 as the 'India - Japan Tourism Exchange Year', was signed between the two countries for cultural exchanges and to increase the two way flow of tourism.
As part of the joint statement issued, it was decided that India will participate in events including the JATA World Travel Fair.
JATA is a body of Japanese travel trade which organizes its world trade show and conferences and seminars annually.
Several tourist destinations participate in the trade show in order to interact with the Japanese travel industry and to promote their destination. It, therefore, provides the ideal forum for promoting India.
Among the various activities planned during the JATA World Travel Fair, is an "Incredible India" seminar being organised by FICCI on September 12, followed by a Road Show, organized by the India tourism office in Tokyo, which will be attended by the Minister of Tourism of Japan.
An India Pavilion is being set up by the Ministry with participation of the State Governments of Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir and Sikkim as well as travel trade representatives as co-exhibitors to showcase the varied tourism products of the country.
Added attractions during the event will include demonstrations of ayurvedic and therapic massages and cultural performances.
