Hour before the arrival of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi here, unidentified militants have targeted a bus carrying the ladies Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel today. A huge explosion was heard at about 9.00 a.m. in the vicinity of downtown area of Srinagar.
Srinagar, Sept. 10 : Hour before the arrival of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi here, unidentified militants have targeted a bus carrying the ladies Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel today. A huge explosion was heard at about 9.00 a.m. in the vicinity of downtown area of Srinagar.
The explosion took place when a bus carrying the CRPF personnel was passing through the area of Rainawari.
According to the DIG, CRPF M P Nathanael, the blast did minor injuries to some of the personnel.
However, the official was still not sure about the nature of the blast. Investigations are going on to establish whether it was an IED blast or a grenade attack.
No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
The security has been already tightened because of the visit of Congress Party President Sonia. She will inaugurate Women's Meet in Jammu and Kashmir 'Khawateen-E-Kashmir Lekar Hathon Mein Hath Raahe Taraqui Pe Sath Sath' here.During her visit, Sonia Gandhi will meet party leaders to hold discussion on organisational matters of the state.
This is the first visit of the Congress President to the valley in nearly two years.
Earlier, she visited here in 2005 in the wake of the October 8 earthquake, which flattened a number of villages particularly in Uri and Tangdhar sectors of north Kashmir.ANI)
