Fake sting case: Lady teacher gets bail

A Delhi court today granted bail to Uma Khurana, the lady teacher who was arrested after a private TV news channel showed her forcing school children into prostitution in a fake sting operation.

New Delhi, Sept 10 : A Delhi court today granted bail to Uma Khurana, the lady teacher who was arrested after a private TV news channel showed her "forcing" school children into prostitution in a "fake" sting operation.

Earlier in the day, Delhi High Court asked the police to submit the case diary of the 'fake' sting operation to go through the evidence collected against Khurana.

"We would like to see the case diary on Wednesday to look into the evidence collected against her," a Bench comprising of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Khanna said.

The Bench also asked the Education Department of Delhi Government to consider reviewing its decision to dismiss Khurana from service, in view of evidence collected so far.

Delhi Police counsel Mukta Gupta told the court that Khurana was not completely innocent since there was evidence showing her involvement in certain parts of the sting operation aired on 'Live India'.

Apparently, not convinced with the counsel's stand, the court has asked for substantial evidence against Khurana.

The police said that the investigation into the case is on.

On Friday, Prakash Singh, a reporter with the Live India was detained on charges of criminal conspiracy against Khurana.

The girl, Rashmi Singh, who had posed as a schoolgirl 'forced' into prostitution by Khurana in the sting operation, has turned out to be an aspiring journalist.

On August 30, Live India 'showed' a sting operation where it alleged that Khurana was forcing schoolgirls into prostitution.

Within minutes, angry people pelted stones at the school, and mobbed Khurana, before she was taken into police custody.

Taking suo moto cognisance of reports about the sting operation being a fake, the High Court had also issued notices to the Delhi Government and the Delhi Police.
