Trivandrum (Kerala), Sept. 10 : A pachyderm regaled audiences have with his on court dunks at a basketball tournament inaugural on Sunday.
The presence of "Ramdas", the elephant, was an add-on to popularize basketball among school children, college students and corporate employees.
Sports Minister M. Vijayakumar inaugurated the tournament."The response was marvellous. There has been a lot of enquiry from the parents and from different quarters. We have allowed exhibition matches in schools to pick up interest," said Shaji Vettooran, the President of the Trivandrum Basketball Association (TBA).
Foreign tourists also enjoyed the day-long carnival.
British tourist Terry Alberts said: "To be in India and to see an elephant putting a basketball in the basket was an amazing experience. To be so close to an elephant, an opportunity to photograph, such an experience was amazing."
Street basketball, popularly known as 'Streetball' was also introduced.
Over 20 teams participated in the carnival.
