Congress President Sonia Gandhi today launched the second phase of the Integrated Novel Development in Rural Areas and Model Municipal Areas model villages (INDIRAMMA) housing project in a small village, Thumuluru, in Andhra Pradeshs Guntur District.
Guntur (Andhra Pradesh), Sep 1 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi today launched the second phase of the Integrated Novel Development in Rural Areas and Model Municipal Areas model villages (INDIRAMMA) housing project in a small village, Thumuluru, in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur District.
"I am happy to inaugurate the second phase of the INDIRAMMA programme... With this, you will have a better future for your family and your children," Gandhi said after inaugurating the programme.
"The biggest dream of any mother is to have a shelter for the family and to secure a better future for the children," she added.
The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhar Reddy, some of his Cabinet colleagues and Lok Sabha MP U Arun Kumar were present on the occasion.
Under the first phase of the programme, about 15 lakh houses have been constructed.
About 23 lakh beneficiaries are likely to be selected for the second phase of the programme.
The unique initiatives of the INDIRAMMA programme are that it provides housing to both the rural and urban poor, and envisages the constitution of 20 lakh houses.The success of the INDIRAMMA housing scheme has encouraged the State Government to construct 25.50 lakh more houses in villages and towns.
The Andhra Pradesh State Government is taking up another 14 lakh pensioners under the Pension Scheme. Each of them will receive Rs. 200 per month.
