Hindus and Muslims attacked each other in Godhra, the same town in Gujarat where communal riots broke out in 2002.
Shehra (Gujarat), Sep 1 : Hindus and Muslims attacked each other in Godhra, the same town in Gujarat where communal riots broke out in 2002.
The violence started as a classroom squabble between Muslim and Hindu boys.
Children from both sides later complained to their parents, who then took the fight to the streets.
"About 500 to 600 youth came near the bus stand area and torched vehicles. They also threw stones, looted shops and beat each other. The place was peaceful during the 2002 riots. It is some people's planned step to disturb the peace," said Roopchand Sevkani, a resident.
"Police controlled the situation immediately. They arrested 15-20 people from each side," said J. K. Bhatt, Superintendent of Police, Panchmahals District.
About 20 people were admitted to hospital.
