Six militants and two soldiers belonging to the 16 JAT Regiment were killed in an encounter with foreign terrorists on the Line of Control in Tanghdhar sector in Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
Srinagar, Oct 7 : Six militants and two soldiers belonging to the 16 JAT Regiment were killed in an encounter with foreign terrorists on the Line of Control in Tanghdhar sector in Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
All six infiltrators were killed by soldiers in the operation.
Earlier in the week, two Army Majors- Dinesh Raghuraman and K P Vinay- were killed in a three-day long operation where nine militants, suspected of belonging to al-Badar, were gunned down in Tangmarg area of Baramulla District.
The new Army Chief, General Deepak Kapoor, on Saturday had said that incidents of infiltration have increased across the LoC in recent weeks with increased militant activities in the State.
Ruling out any reduction in troops in the State, General Kapoor had said, "Till the time violence is fully brought under control and peace and normalcy return to Kashmir like other states, it may not be possible for us to bring down the level of troops in Kashmir."
"Once the Government feels that the situation is right, we will be happy to go back to our barracks," he had added.
