Pune, Oct.7 : Dog owners in Pune do not need to think twice for their pets' care, especially while going outstation, courtesy the "Dogs Training and Hostel", a dog hostel-cum-grooming centre here.

The Dogs Training and Hostel has been a big relief and delight for the dog owners of the city for the past 18 years here. A kennel expert Shivraj Patil is running it. Whenever I have to go outstation, there is no one to look after the dog. I leave my dog at the hostel. Also, if my dog is ill, I come here to seek medical prescription from the visiting veterinary doctors here. The hostel owner is an expert and looks after the dogs really well," said S S Patil, one of the pet dog owners.

Located on the outskirts of Pune's Katraj-Kondhave Road, the dogs' crŠche can accommodate nearly 100 dogs of different pedigrees at a time.

"Earlier, I used to train people's dog at their residence. But whenever the dog owner had to go outstation, leaving the dog under someone's care turned a major problem. Hence, I decided to open this hostel for dogs' temporary stay," said Shivraj Patil, the dog hostel owner.

With 20 trained attendants to provide a round-the-clock service to the pets, there is not much left for the puppy owners to ask for special care. team of two qualified veterinary doctors regularly visits the canine hostel.

Many dog owners leave their dogs at the hostel for being trained. The training also helps to establish an understanding with the dog.

"An untrained dog cannot differentiate whom to love or attack. My dog understands me better now. The training has plugged the communication gap between. Earlier, it used to disobey me," said C.D. Kale, a dog owner.

"I provide the dogs with similar facilities and food that they have in their homes. I feed an adult dog twice and the puppies have to be fed thrice. Indeed, we have to look after these puppies like people take care of their children," said Patil.

The hostel ensures freedom and friendship for all dogs.

But all this special care for the pets comes for a fee that may vary from rupees 2,000 to 6,000, depending on the dog's pedigree and duration of stay at the crŠche.
