UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today laid the foundation stone of the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) at Kundli in Haryanas Sonepat District.
Sonepat, Oct 7 : UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today laid the foundation stone of the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) at Kundli in Haryana's Sonepat District.
This Institute will be set up in a 100-acre campus at the cost of Rs. 245 crore. It will have technical support form Cornell University, USA.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Subodh Kant Sahai said that the vision for NIFTEM is to be an international centre of excellence, which integrates all facets of food technology entrepreneurship, research and management.
It is expected to be the focal point for catalysing the growth of food processing industry in India with respect to global scenario.
He said the academic session of NIFTEM would start from 2009.
Sahai further said that the mission of NIFTEM is to produce world-class business leaders, develop globally competitive processes and technologies and international best practices in the area of food technology, entrepreneurship and management.
NIFTEM would be the apex Research and Development institute in India and coordinate all R and D efforts in this sector in the country.
It will carry out R and D in frontier areas, develop world-class technologies and assist the Government in Food Processing Policy.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was also present on the occasion.
