With the prospect of mid-term election looming large in the country as the ties between the UPA and the Left worsen, the Left Fronts mammoth rally in Agartala today hinted at the Fronts poll preparedness.

Agartala, Oct 7 : With the prospect of mid-term election looming large in the country as the ties between the UPA and the Left worsen, the Left Front's mammoth rally in Agartala today hinted at the Front's poll preparedness.
Elections to the Tripura State Assembly also being less then five months away, the Left Front has geared up its preparation in the State with an apprehension of early elections.
Nine frontal organizations of the Front, including their tribal wing, trade unions, women front, student's association, and DYFI submitted a nine-point charter of demands with around seven lakhs signatories of the State through the MPs to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, convener of frontal Leftist wings accused the visionless planning of the Congress at the Centre for the underdevelopment of the northeast region.
He said that in spite of huge potential of the region, the Centre has failed bring development that has added to the burning problem of militancy in the area.
He said that proper development of infrastructure, connectivity, utilization of the resources and proximity with fast economically developing South-East Asia could turn the region to the most developed one in India.
Other than more employment opportunities for the region and curbing price hike through proper public distribution system, Sarkar demanded for establishment of global connectivity through the seaport of Chittagaon by extending rail line up to Sabroom, which shall convert Tripura as the business corridor of India to the South East Asia.
"These have been our demand for the last 10-15 years and we have been trying hard to make the central government understand this fact but they are not ready to accept it," he added.
Speaking to ANI, spokesperson of the CPI (M), Gautam Das said that the UPA Government at the Centre has totally failed in checking the price hike of the essential commodities.
Later, a huge procession was carried out that moved through the streets of the city before concluding at Battala.
