Speculations of mid-term polls on Saturday gained strength with Congress President Sonia Gandhi saying that she was not at all concerned about its prospect.

New Delhi, Oct 6 : Speculations of mid-term polls on Saturday gained strength with Congress President Sonia Gandhi saying that she was not at all concerned about its prospect.

"Not at all. If there are elections you face it," Sonia replied when asked if the possibility of snap poll concerns her.

She was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an Iftar party hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Singh, at the same party, said, "Nothing is inevitable" on being asked the same question. He said that he is hoping for the best from the ongoing discussions with the Left parties on the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal, as the Left leaders opposition to the deal has led to speculation that it may withdraw its support from the UPA government.

"As long as there is dialogue, there is always a hope," he added.

CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury, who put the onus on the government regarding the possibility of snap polls, was also present at the Iftar party, which was organised at the Prime Minister's official residence.

"I don`t know. Ask the government," he quipped. he next meeting of the UPA-Left committee on the nuclear deal will be held on October 9.
