New Delhi, Oct 6 : A major fire broke out in 'Mayur Bhavan', a multi-storeyed building, housing the income tax office here on Saturday.
There were no casualties, though a large number of documents were destroyed in the fire that occurred around 5 a.m.
Forty fire engines were rushed to the spot to bring the blaze under control.
Fire officials said two people were stranded on the roof of the building, but were rescued.
R. C. Sharma, the Chief Fire Official, said the situation was under control.
"The fire had reached till the seventh floor but it has been confined to it. The eighth and ninth floors are completely intact. Some things had fallen to the fourth floor; they have also been taken care of. We have checked the eighth floor and there are no casualties, though things have to be checked thoroughly," he said.
Sharma added that the cause of the fire would be investigated.
