Equipment profile of Indian armed forces will witness change: Antony

Hinting to the new acquisitions likely to be made by countrys armed forces, Defence Minister A K Antony today said that the equipment profile would change in coming years.

New Delhi, Oct 4 : Hinting to the new acquisitions likely to be made by country's armed forces, Defence Minister A K Antony today said that the equipment profile would change in coming years.

Defence Ministry had recently issued Request For Proposals (RFP) to buy 126 medium multi role combat fighter aircraft. The government is also keen to acquire new tanks, artillery guns, warships and radars.

"Modern-day war machinery is intricate and the complexities will only increase with advancement in technology. Therefore, modernization of our Armed Forces is a must and a continuous activity," Antony said at the golden jubilee celebration of Directorate General Quality Assurance (DGQA).

Underlying the importance of DGQA in maintaining quality assurance, and reliability throughout the life-cycle of the defence equipments, Antony said that the government is going ahead with Reciprocal Government Quality Assurance (RGQA) Agreements with other countries.

"The onus will be on all of you (DGQA) to attain international standards and strive to be among the best in the world. In today's world of intense competition, your performance on the international scale will be judged by the levels of transparency and responsiveness to the needs of global players," he added.
