ArvinMeritor (NYSE:ARM) has announced the appointment of Larry Dowers as vice president and managing director of India, effective September 1.
In this role, Dowers is responsible for developing strategic plans, driving market growth initiatives, managing customer relationships and joint ventures in India for all ArvinMeritor businesses.
"Larry's extensive background in business development and commercial vehicle product strategy will be a tremendous advantage to us in growing our business in India," said Rakesh Sachdev, president of Asia Pacific.
Most recently, Dowers served as general manager of Product Strategy, where he was responsible for the development of new products globally for CVS. He has held a variety of positions within the company including Specialty Products, China operations and European sales in the commercial vehicle business.
Dowers began his career in aerospace at Lockheed, later moving into the automotive industry where he now has more than 25 years of experience, including leadership positions in Braking Systems at Lucas Varity and with the Truck Group at Navistar (International Harvester Corp.)
Dowers holds a bachelor's of science degree with concentrations in mathematics and physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He has served on the SAE Truck and Bus General Committee and has also served as General Chairman of the SAE Off-Highway & Powerplant Congress.
