14 insurgents surrender in Assam

Fourteen insurgents belonging to various outfits active in the upper Assam region surrendered before the Army.

Guwahati, Oct 30 : Fourteen insurgents belonging to various outfits active in the upper Assam region surrendered before the Army.

Army's intelligence units were directly responsible for facilitating the surrender of these hardcore terrorists, which included Toor Moni Borgohain, wife of self-styled insurgent Prajjal Saikia and a Company Commander of ULFA.

The surrender is part of the overall strategy of "fighting insurgency and not the insurgents" enunciated by General BS Jaswal, General Officer Gajraj Corps.

Based on this strategy, the Army has launched military operations in concert with initiatives with renewed vigour.

In order to encourage the cadres to surrender, self-employment schemes and rehabilitation packages are being worked out by the State Government.
