The Patiala District Court on Wednesday framed charges against popular Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi in connection with an alleged human trafficking case.
Patiala (Punjab), Oct 3 : The Patiala District Court on Wednesday framed charges against popular Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi in connection with an alleged human trafficking case.
"We are happy with the court's decision. They had duped us earlier, and the decision is in the light of the events that had taken place earlier. We look forward to the next hearing," said Bakshish Singh, the complainant.
The case will come up for hearing on October 30.
"The court has ordered to frame charges under section 120(B), 467 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Daler Mehndi, Shamsher Mehndi and others," said Baljinder Singh Sodhi, Daler Mehndi's lawyer.
Commenting on the framing of the charges, Daler Mehndi said, "I have no reaction as of now. I have been fighting since 2003 against these charges. I am sure we will win in the end," said Daler Mehndi.
Earlier this year, Punjab Police had moved two petitions before the Patiala Court to discharge Mehndi from the case, arguing that the pop singer was innocent.
Police had arrested Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Mehandi in October 2003 after Bakshish Singh filed a complaint against the duo.
Mehndi had to spent few days in the lock-up before being released on bail.
Mehndi and his brother Shamsher had allegedly duped Singh of a large sum of amount under the pretext of taking him abroad.
