New Delhi, Oct 20 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi spoke to former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto over telephone, and expressed her concern over the Thursday night's suicide attack on her homecoming procession.
Expressing her deep anguish over the incident that left close to 140 people dead, Sonia told Benazir, "The cult of hatred and violence has to be eradicated with unity of purpose by everyone concerned."
"The Congress President felt that forces of terror and violence possess great potential threat to democracy and civilised society," Congress leader M Veerappa Moily said.
Sonia said she was relieved that Bhutto and her family members had a miraculous escape in the attack and wished her well.
