On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhis birth anniversary, the Centre today launched Aam Admi Bima Yojna, an insurance scheme for the rural landless families.

New Delhi, Oct 2 : On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary, the Centre today launched Aam Admi Bima Yojna, an insurance scheme for the rural landless families.

The Centre is also expected to announce a pension scheme for senior citizens on November 19, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The rupees 1000 crore scheme, 'Aam Admi Bima Yojana', will cover all rural landless households that lack any insurance benefit.

Under the scheme, the head of the family or one earning member in the family will be insured. The Centre and State will share the burden of paying the premium of Rs 200 per year per person, equally.

In case of natural death, the victim's family will be compensated with Rs 30,000, while Rs 75,000 will be given for accidental death and Rs 37,500 in partial disability.
