A day after the Inter Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was announced as the joint winner of the Nobel Peace Prize along with former US Vice President Al gore, the chairman of the panel Rajendra Pachauri came out strongly in support of the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal.
New Delhi, Oct 13 : A day after the Inter Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was announced as the joint winner of the Nobel Peace Prize along with former US Vice President Al gore, the chairman of the panel Rajendra Pachauri came out strongly in support of the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal.
In an interview to a foreign news agency, Pachauri said, "...I thought that the deal that we had struck with the US, which our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had sort of spent so much of time and effort in coming up with, should go through and I hope it goes through."
Pachauri also said that nuclear energy is a serious option for India.
"I think in our country given the fact that we are going to have several problems with supply of fuels of all kinds, nuclear is a serious option and we need to look at it very carefully," he added.
His statement comes a day after Manmohan Singh indicated that the government might put a pause on the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal due to the vehement opposition by the Left Front.
