Ajmer, Oct 12 : Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Sindhia on Friday promised to bring to book the culprits behind yesterday's blast that killed two people and wounded 17 others here.
"People of Ajmer have worked together to maintain peace and solidarity during the time of crises, and I pledge that with the grace of almighty we will nab the culprits who were behind this incident," said Sindhia.
Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and local police kept a vigil across the city even as people went about their normal day-to-day routine today.
A small bomb exploded just after evening prayers outside the famous Ajmer Sharif shrine on Thursday evening.
The blast occurred at around 6.15 p.m. just before the end of the Ramadan fasting month.
Around 200 people were in and around the shrine at the time, many breaking their fast after prayers, police said. The bomb had been placed under a tree.
The shrine, which contains the tomb of the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisty, is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Muslims in India and abroad.
Hindus and Sikhs also visit the shrine, which lies some 350 km southwest of New Delhi, and is seen as a symbol of communal harmony.
Pakistani leaders, including Pervez Musharraf, Mohammad Zia-ul-Haq and Benazir Bhutto, have also visited the shrine during their respective state visits, which has also attracted Bollywood stars like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
