Hyderabad, October 11...Hypertension, Diabetes and Obesity are a Deadly Trio. These all diseases could result in cardiovascular diseases this is what is known to us until recently. Now it has been revealed that together they form even a deadlier combination.
India has the largest and fastest growing diabetic population in the world. There are 33 million diabetes patients and over the past three decades, the number of affected has increased 10 times.
Hypertension is affecting the young generation in a big way, the World Health Organization has warned. But this may be just the tip of the iceberg with other life-style diseases creeping on unsuspecting persons.
Stress leads to many other diseases like diabetes mellitus. This is increasingly attacking particularly the young Indian population. The diabetic census of India in 1995 showed 19.4 million suffering from it; the projection for 2025 is 75 to 80 million.
World Health Organization (WHO) has projected that by 2020, India will be the diabetes capital of the world. It also predicts that by 2010, India will have 100 million heart patients. WHO has alerted that in the coming days hypertension will start spreading like an epidemic if not controlled now. "Hypertension, diabetes and obesity are the three risk factors. They are the harbinger of many other diseases in human body.

About 500 delegates comprised of Doctors, Post Graduation students, representatives of Government bodies are expected to participate in the meet.
The objective of the meet is to develope public and physicians awareness on these focused diseases such as obesity, Heart, Hypertension, Diabetes and Lipids. Factors like rapid urbanization, sedentary life-style, changed diet patterns, change in life-style and lack of physical activity all leading to more complications. Inspite of the severity of the problem neither people nor the government has woken up as yet. Time has come to take up and address these serious issues said Dr. P. Naveen Chander Reddy, one of the program coordinators of the conference.
Indeed, it will be a rare platform as the Doctors of International reputation from various countries are assembled together to share their knowledge, discuss and deliberate with a single focus to drive home severity of the problem to alert public in general and policy makers in particular, informed Dr. P. Naveen Chander Reddy.
If detected early, they could be easily modified or treated by simple measures and prevent serious complications which most of the times result in loss of life, added Dr. P. Naveen Chander Reddy.
Adding further he stated that the convention would review the topics spread over various sessions by the eminent faculty to help standardize management principles and protocols. The endeavour of the meet is also to help people and the medical fraternity with the able support of the policy makers to prevent and manage efficiently. The responsibility not only lies on the medical fraternity, government officials and media also equally plays a catalyst role in bringing awareness on these deadly diseases.
Health is a global issue. Continuing Medical Education is an integral phenomenon of Mediciti Hospitals. The hospital has been organizing International CME programs on various subjects of great concern year after year. Eminent physicians from United States and other parts of the world have been attending such conferences held from time to time across India and have helped impart information about recent developments in the medical fields to the Indian physicians and public.
This time 10th International CME is conducted on the very important subjects of Obesity, Heart, Hypertension, Diabetes and Lipids. Mediciti Hospital together with the help of its founding members from USA—Dr. P.S. Reddy and Dr. Venkat Ram who are also the Chairpersons of this program have brought to the city 10 eminent physicians from the United States.
The reasons for choosing OHHDL subjects this year for CME program is due rapidly rising incidence of these diseases leading to lethal heart and kidney failures. The WHO report which reveals that the incidence of diabetes mellitus is likely to double from the existing 4 crore to 9 crore patients by the year 2020. These diseases generally being asymptomatic do not attract the attention of the patients in the initial stages and is recognized only when they develop complications by which time it is too late and leads to morbidity and disability. It is more serious concern of late because these diseases are occurring early and crippling middle-aged population during their peak productive period, which puts a great financial strain on their individual families and the nation.
Medicti Hospitals is trying to develop this awareness among the people, physicians and the government through the CME on OHHDL
It will be earnest appeal to media through this press meet is to run a series of campaigns articles, features on these diseases, their effects, complications etc and build up awareness among the people how simple measures like regular exercise, low fat and calorie diet, peaceful and contented life-style, early screening, detection and treatment can prevent the long-term disability. Simple messages that these diseases are preventable or modifiable by early detection treatment and life style changes has to be spread to every citizen of India. Lack of awareness is a serious issue, and building awareness is a social obligation on all of us, concluded Dr. P. Naveen Chander Reddy
