CCEA approves 2nd phase of Krishna Drinking Water Project at rupees 8.2 billion

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project Phase-II for augmentation of water supply in Hyderabad city at a cost of Rs.817.62 crore (approximately Rs. 8.2 billion).

New Delhi, Nov 27 : The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project Phase-II for augmentation of water supply in Hyderabad city at a cost of Rs.817.62 crore (approximately Rs. 8.2 billion).

The expenditure incurred up to March 31, 2006 on the project is Rs.211.12 crore (Rs. 2.1 billion approximately.).

Therefore, the cost for reimbursement under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) will Rs.606.50 crore (Rs. 6 billion approximately) and release of Additional Central Assistance to the extent of Rs.212.275 crore (Rs. 2.12 billion approximately) being the share of the Government of India, in the manner prescribed under the guidelines.

Augmentation of additional 90 Mgd (410 Mld) of treated water to the city of Hyderabad and its urban agglomeration including surrounding municipalities to bridge the gap between demand and supply.

It would facilitate increase in present 80 lpcd to 150 lpcd required as the per the norms in the surrounding municipalities.

It would also facilitate taking care of the water requirements of projects like Hyderabad International Airport, FAB City, hardware sector, textile sector, IT and other industrial sectors.

The project is likely to be completed by November 2007.
