The Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has announced that a portrait of slain rebel Sikh leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale would be installed at a Sikh museum in Punjab.
Amritsar, Nov 23 : The Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has announced that a portrait of slain rebel Sikh leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale would be installed at a Sikh museum in Punjab.
Avtar Singh Makkar, chief of the SGPC said that Bhindrawale's portrait would be put up at the Sikh museum at the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar."The portrait of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale will be put up at the Sikh museum by the SGPC on November 30," Makkar said.
In 2003, the SGPC, an apex body controlling Sikh places of worship, had declared Bhindranwale a "martyr".
Bhindrawale was killed in "Operation Bluestar" mounted by the Indian army to flush out separatists from Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, killing scores and severely damaging the structure.
Twenty-three years on, the lean bodied firebrand leader is still a hero among the radical Sikhs.
