Bodh Gaya (Bihar), Nov 21 : The 17th Karmapa Lama, Ugyen Thrinley Dorje, led prayers in Bihar's Bodh Gaya town, on Tuesday.
Hundreds of Buddhists monks and devotees congregated at the Tergar Monastery to hear the sermon.
"There are 700 monks and Buddhists from Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal and somendians also," said Thinley Youngdha, a Buddhist monk.
Dorje, one of the highest lamas in the Tibetan Buddhist hierarchy, is the only senior monk to be recognised by both Beijing and the Dalai Lama.
The Karmapa Lama escaped to India in January 2001 after an arduous 1,400- km (875-mile) journey through the Himalayas.
He is now settled in Dharamsala, and was granted refugee status by the Central Government in 2005.
