Empathising with embattled Islamists in Balochistan and Swat Valley in North West Frontier Province (NWFP), Hurriyat Conference (Geelani) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani today said that the present situation in Pakistan was critical and saddening for him.
New Delhi, Nov 2 : Empathising with embattled Islamists in Balochistan and Swat Valley in North West Frontier Province (NWFP), Hurriyat Conference (Geelani) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani today said that the present situation in Pakistan was "critical and saddening" for him.
Geelani told Asian News International that the Pakistan Army is slaughtering its own people in Balochistan.
"You can see the state of affairs in Balochistan. They (authorities) are attacking their own citizens, bombarding them, fighting them with guns. On one hand the authorities are holding guns there and they (Balochs) are taking up arms," said Geelani, who is undergoing a medical treatment here.
"Those who use force against their own people, they can be termed as 'outsiders' for their country. We can't say that they love their country or its citizens or that they want to see their country safe and are peace-loving," he added.
Geelani also expressed his disgust over the ongoing military attack in Swat valley in North West Frontier Province (NWFP).
"What is going on in Swat these days - Blood is being shed. They are arresting people and beheading them. This is un-Islamic. Islam does not permit one to arrest someone and then behead them," he said.
Swat has seen a surge in militant activity since pro-Taliban cleric Mullah Fazlullah launched an illegal FM radio station and urged a holy war.
The government last week sent more than 2,000 troops to quell the uprising.
More than 100 people, most of them militants, have reportedly been killed in the conflict between the security forces and Islamist militants.
The fighting was triggered on October 25 when a suicide bombing targeting an army convoy killing 21 people. Militants then executed 13 people the following day, including six members of the security forces whom they beheaded.
Thousands of people have already fled the valley and there are growing fears of more fighting as militants have asked residents in a local rebel stronghold to leave their homes.
