BJP for Adjournment Motion in Parliament over Nandigram, Left in no mood to discuss it

The violent takeover of Nandigram by CPI (M) cadres and the subsequent justification of it by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee are likely to come up for a heated discussion in the Lok Sabha on Monday in spite of Left parties reluctance for it.

New Delhi, Nov 15 : The violent takeover of Nandigram by CPI (M) cadres and the subsequent justification of it by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee are likely to come up for a heated discussion in the Lok Sabha on Monday in spite of Left parties reluctance for it.

The opposition BJP will move an Adjournment Motion over the issue in the Lok Sabha on Monday, and has cited the discussion of the 2002 Gujarat riots in the Parliament as an example of a 'State issue' being debated in the Parliament.

"Nandigram has witnessed severe crime against women and children and the Lok Sabha has a mandate to discuss issues like this, which amounts to a civil war," BJP leader V K Malhotra said today.

"Why can't Nandigram be discussed when Gujarat has been discussed several times," Malhotra added.

With the Left Front has shown reluctance for a Parliamentary debate on the issue by citing it to be a "State issue", the BJP is in no mood to spare the Left on the situation prevailing there, which has led to civil society coming out to protests against the State Government in huge numbers.

"Nandigram can be discussed in the West Bengal assembly but not in Parliament," Gurudas Das Gupta said today after top Left leaders met here to decide on their strategy in the Parliament.

However, the BJP has said that the Nandigram issue is not exclusively a State issue since it relates to the acquisition of land for Special Economic Zone (SEZ), which is a central subject.

Mweanwhile, the Left getting a cue that the BJP might stall the Parliament if it is denied to move an Adjournment motion, urged the opposition to allow the House to function.
